Bird-Photo-Tour Asia’s Taiwan photography adventure explores an island that is still not that well-established on the world birding map, yet is a place with one of the highest concentrations of endemic birds in Asia. Our Bird-Photo-Tour offers a comprehensive coverage of the island and the opportunity for close photographic encounters with Taiwan’s 30 endemic bird species, including Mikado and Swinhoe’s Pheasants, as well as the rare and beautiful Collared Bush Robin and Taiwan Rosefinch. Two hundred kilometres off the eastern coast of China lies the island of Taiwan. Known to the ancient Chinese, attracted by tales of its natural wealth, as ‘Bao Dao’ or ‘Treasure Island’ and known by the Portuguese as ‘Isla Formosa’ or ‘Beautiful Island’, this mountainous, picturesque, subtropical island set in the South China Sea is a prosperous place with a highly educated population and a well-developed infrastructure.
For the bird photographer, Taiwan has a great deal to offer. Most exciting of all are the many endemic species, most of which are especially attractive such as the colorful Taiwan Barbet or the handsome Steere’s Liocichla. The itinerary for this bird photography tour has been carefully designed by Bird Photo Tours Asia to allow the bird photographer long enough at key locations to obtain portrait quality images of this island’s special birds. Several of Taiwan’s endemics are either quite localized or very shy, such as Rusty Laughingthrush, Flamecrest or Taiwan Partridge and therefore requires time and effort to ensure these species are captured on film. Bird Photo Tours Asia’s specially tailored itinerary, led by its experienced Tour Leader and accompanied by its local network of guides, all skilled in the needs of the photographer, are factors that combine well to ensure that the bird photographer returns back to his / her hometown armed with portrait-quality images of the Birds of Taiwan.
